The indisputable Limpopo breakout artist Clauds has been steadily releasing new music in the lead-up to her long-awaited debut album Identity, which was recently for released nation-wide through Virtue Records and Entertainment.
The album’s twelve songs radiate a beautiful marriage of South African Afro-pop and Afro-soul vintage easy listening, with lyrical themes involving issues around self-identity; political influence, navigating through life challenges and love & relationships.
The Afro-Pop centric album also features laidback production, melodic lyricism and a familiar but unique and proudly South Africa rhythmic sound, which she infused with her mother tongue, TshiVenda. To add more diversity and contribute to the array of sounds, Clauds features SA Idols winner for 2015, Karabo Mogane, keyboard specialist, Lebo Morolo, and her
4-year-old daughter Rialivhuwa.
Clauds says some of the tracks to lookout for include Shango Lashu, which is already receiving massive airplay, HELP, Zwonaka, Be kind to self- and there are mostly delivered in English, Tshivenḓa, and isiZulu.
She adds: “Shango Lashu – is also a prayer to God to help Africans recover from injustices of the past related to land dispositions and minerals which have resulted in such high levels of poverty all over Africa. HELP – It’s a prayer by someone who is struggling with mental health and they don’t know what to do anymore. Zwonaka – It’s a feel good love song where 2 people are celebrating their special kind of love. Be kind to self – It’s an encouragement song to people who have made mistakes in the past to forgive themselves and move on with life”.
Identity is available on online stores including iTunes; Google Play, Deezer, Spotify and all other certified digital platforms.
